Letter-writing is the primary form of communication available to parents and campers during camp. We encourage both campers and parents to write to each other often, but we do not require camper letter writing on a specific schedule. Campers may mail their letters or fax them from the main office, where there is a separate fax machine set up for this purpose. The costs of both US postage and the fax service are already included in the published camp fees so there is no extra charge for either.

Parents may also fax back to campers, to our regular fax number (207-647-3259). The camper will receive the fax when the cabin mail is delivered in the late afternoon, either the same day or the next day.

We will be continuing service through Bunk1.com that will allow parents to communicate with their campers using email. Campers can fax from our office fax machine on bar coded letterhead purchased by parents from bunk1.com in advance. This fax will be translated by Bunk1.com and sent to the parent's inbox as regular email. The parent can respond as to any other email and bunk1.com will relay the email to us at camp, where we can print out the response and add it to the regular cabin mail each day.

Cell phones are not allowed during regular days in camp because we feel it is an important part of the experience for campers to socialize with old and new friends at camp and thereby become immersed in the camp community, a process made far more difficult if they are constantly calling friends and family at home. Campers are allowed to use the camp office phone in the case of a family emergency or other unusual circumstance, at the discretion of Jamie or Ellen. We do encourage campers to use their cell phones to call family and friends on trip days, which occur twice in each session. Campers will be calling sometime between late morning and late afternoon on the dates specified in the May parents' mailing, and we will provide phones to all campers who don't have their own.

Parents may reach Jamie, Ellen, the nurses, and all other staff members by telephone as needed (207-647-3947). Jamie and Ellen are also available at the same email addresses as during the winter: jamie@encore-coda.com and ellen@encore-coda.com
